The 2010 by 2010 project is an initiative I have begun to encourage the landowners of Paloma Cove to help transform the cove into more of a carbon dioxide sink. The idea is to plant 2,010 large trees by the end of 2010.
I am convinced, that as more and more attention is paid to carbon emissions that local, state and federal governments will begin to establish tax incentives and penalties to individuals and businesses. In fact the subject has been knocked around by both residents and local lawmakers here.
It makes sense.
One of the variables that they will take into consideration is how much one offsets their energy usage. If you are a landowner who consumes sparse energy resources and has land that is thick with new growth vegetation then you will receive a tax offset compared to one who uses more energy with little of no vegetation.
I am working with local nurseries to help provide young trees, saplings and seedlings either free or at a reduced cost.
We will also be putting together an information package for residents that will help them better understand the 2010 by 2010 project as well as all the benefits of planting more vegetation.
