Army Emergency Relief Fund Fund Raiser

Challenge:  How do you maximize the fund raising efforts of a charity that provides support to
the families of servicemen killed or injured when those soldiers are fighting an unpopular
war?  By creating a poignant yet position neutral event that raises awareness and outlines
the benefits of the work the charity does.

A huge success!  I organized this fund raiser to raise awareness of the AER Fund with the
purpose of securing funds for the children of lost servicemen.  The charity is one of the most
efficient in existence with almost 98 cents of each dollar going directly to the beneficiaries.  
The biggest contributors were, and still are, the good folks at "Get The Scoop" in North
Massapequa.  They continue to collect funds via a jar they have on their counter.  They match
dollar for dollar each contribution made by their VERY generous customers.  Click on

Army Emergency Relief Fund Raiser - Support Our Troops!!!

What:  Fund Raiser for the Army Emergency Relief Fund

Where: The Open Grass Field, Marjorie R. Post Community Park, Unqua and Merrick Roads,
Massapequa

When: Saturday, April 17th, 2004 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM

How: American Flags placed in formation representing out lost troops during Operations
Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.  Those making donations will 'adopt' a flag.  
Suggested donation is $5 per flag. Checks only.  No cash donations will be accepted.  
Checks made payable to "Army Emergency Relief" or simply "AER".  You can always mail
your donation directly to: "Army Emergency Relief, Attn: Donations, 200 Stovall Street, Room
5-N-13, Alexandria, VA 22332-0600.

Why:  To raise donations to help support the Army Emergency Relief (AER) Fund.  The AER is
a private nonprofit organization incorporated in 1942 by the Secretary of War and the Army
Chief of Staff.  AER's sole mission is to help soldiers and their dependants.  For more

Please take some time to stop by the event and adopt a flag for each member of your family
that you can go home to tonight.  This fund raiser is intended solely to increase donations to
the AER, express gratitude to our troops and their families and promote volunteerism.

Media Advisory:  With over 700 U.S. Flags on a green grass field this will be a visually
powerful display.  Good photo opportunity.
