Buzz and Viral Marketing
On the evening of April 18, 1775, as British officers and sailors began to mass on Boston's
Long Wharf a young boy who worked at a livery stable overheard one British army officer say
to another that "there will be hell to pay tomorrow!"  With that the young boy ran to the home of
silversmith Paul Revere.  This seemed to confirm the other rumors that came his way
throughout that day.  He and his close friend Joseph Warren were now convinced that the
British were about to make a long rumored move - to march on Lexington to arrest colonial
leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams and to seize the stores of guns and ammunition
held at Concord.  Everyone knows what happened next - the great ride of Paul Revere.
But did you know that Joseph Warren rode too?  He rode longer and faster and contacted
more people - but not to the same effect.  

Why?  

Paul Revere knew how to buzz and Joseph Warren did not.
